This is in furtherance of the mandate of the Enugu Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Centre, as initiated by the state government under Ugwuanyi.
A statement issued by Special Adviser to the governor on SMEs Development and Director-General, Enugu SMEs Centre, Arinze Chilo-Offiah, revealed that the centre was partnering with CyberSafe Foundation and Ping CyberTalent to organise the programme.
Chilo-Offiah said the ICT-driven initiative was championed by Ugwuanyi to help tackle cybercrime and youth unemployment in the state.
The Guardian recalled that Ugwuanyi’s administration recently trained additional 500 youths in programming and products design through the SMEs Centre.
It has also commenced the process for training another set of 500 youths, as part of efforts to create employment opportunities for about 5,000 youths in the state in various fields of innovative endeavor.
Chilo-Offiah pointed out that the youths could make more money as Cyber security experts, contrary to the belief of many of them that Internet fraud popularly known as “Yahoo Yahoo” was the quickest and easiest way to get rich.
He revealed that there were over 3.5 million unfilled cyber security jobs globally, stressing that participants of the programme would become certified cyber security experts at the end of the training and would stand the chance of getting internship opportunities within and outside the country.
He maintained that applicants should be within 18 and 30 years old and should be interested in pursuing a career in technology, resident in Enugu and willing to commit to the full duration of the training.
